About this Research Topic

Agriculture monitoring is one of the major applications of the Earth Observation (EO) technology. Coarse resolution sensors such as the Moderate-Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) or the Advanced Very High-Resolution Radiometer (AVHRR) were initially the only option that enabled high temporal resolution of the Earth, a key characteristic to capture the dynamics of agricultural practices. Thus, most works were restricted to work at national or subnational level aiming to global scale agriculture monitoring. Currently coarse resolution missions provide a legacy of more than 25 years (MODIS) and 40 years (AVHRR) of daily global observations. The launch of the Copernicus program with the improvement of the medium/high spatial resolution missions revisit time enabled the development of agriculture applications at regional, field or within-field scale.


This Research Topic looks for works aimed (but not limited to) to agriculture applications such as yield forecasting, irrigation optimization, fertilization management or pest control.
