The open access publishing model, defined by the Berlin Agreement in 2003  enhances societal impact of research. Gold open access publishing services are supported through Article Processing Charges (APC), with no charges applied to articles that are rejected during the review process. 

Below, we provide a comprehensive breakdown of how APCs are allocated, in accordance with the recommendations of the Fair Open Access Alliance and the requirements of Plan S:

Publication: The majority of APCs are allocated to the publication phase, which encompasses typesetting, graphic design, online production, and article indexing, ensuring that articles are available in digital formats and easily accessible.

Journal Operations: operational expenses necessary to maintain the quality and efficiency of our journals, including editorial and administrative management.

Fees: A small percentage is reserved to cover fees associated with financial transactions and the management of APC-related payments.

Communication: Effective communication is essential for disseminating research findings. This percentage is used to promote and distribute our journal content through various channels and platforms.

General Expenses: Part of the APCs is allocated to general expenses, including the maintenance of technological infrastructure, technical support, and other operational costs related to the publication platform.

Surplus: We allocate a percentage to generate a surplus that allows us to reinvest in the growth and continuous improvement of our journals, as well as expand our reach and diversify our publications.

Discounts and Waivers: We also set aside a portion of APCs to provide discounts and waivers to authors facing financial difficulties, ensuring that open access is genuinely inclusive and equitable.
